I call myself a Happy Practitioner because I have been doing things to increase happiness for myself and others for as long as I can remember. I will share my favorite practices that have made a big, impactful and positive difference in my life, to shine some light on your path to Creating your Happy.
Take Time to Be Kind
We get busy and wrapped up in all the things we have to do, all the things we have to remember and we can forget we are all on this ride together. I have made a conscious effort to say Hello and ask people who are working and helping me, how their day is for as long as I can remember. The next time you're standing at the counter at the grocery store, ordering from your favorite coffee shop, at any retail spot or restaurant, take a moment and ask the person helping you how their day is. This one simple act can have such a positive impact and it takes just a moment.
Beginning Meditation Practice
There are so many guided meditations online. Search for a subject matter, like morning meditation, stress relief, sleep meditation or meditation for beginners and choose a comfortable length of time, maybe 10 or 15 minutes to start. The presenters voice is important so if the tone is not comforting to you, just find another. Know that your mind will wander, (mine still does) and when it does, just bring it back to the words and music you are listening to you.
If you don't want to try guided meditation, you can simply find a comfortable spot to sit or lie and breathe deeply for a few minutes. You will focus on your breath; the way it goes in and out of your nose and mouth, the way it fills your lungs, how your body rises and falls with your inhalation and exhalation. When you find your mind wandering, just bring your attention back to your breath.
Here are just a few of the benefits of meditation . . .
- Decreases worry, anxiety, stress, fear, depression
- Enhances self-esteem and self-acceptance
- Improves your immune system and energy level
- Improves your mood and emotional intelligence
- Increases memory retention and recall
Take a few quiet moments for yourself every day and begin Creating more Happy.
